Celebrations in 2004: "Biodiversity for food security: women farmers are ready!". LIST OF WRWD PLANNED CELEBRATIONS AROUND THE WORLD IFAP participated in a press conference on the 14th of October in collaboration with the French farmers of the FNSEA. The President of the IFAP Committee on women farmers, Mrs Karen Serres as well as the President of the FNSEA Women Commission, Mrs Maryannick Méhaignerie took this opportunity to highlight women farmers’ contribution to biodiversity around the world. Mrs. Karen Serres, President of the Committee, spoke on the 12th October during the opening of the World Food Day Exhibition, at the FAO Headquarters. ARGENTINA MUJERES FEDERADAS ARGENTINAS (FAA) This network has written an article (in spanish only) to disseminate to its members asking for the implementation of different tools in the elaboration of environmental policies in order to reach an economic, political, social and sustainable development. CAMBODIA COSTA RICA Animation and manifestations on the 14, 15 and 16 of October 2004. The programme (in French) includes allocutions, visits of expositions, conferences, visits from young people. Placed under the auspices of FAO, these celebrations will be under the Patronage of the President of the Republic, and will be co-sponsored by the Minister of the State, the Minister of Agriculture ; the Minister of families, women and children, and the Minister of Animal Production and Fisheries. DEMOCRATIC REP. CONGO Are planned : 1) Sensibilisation of all populations from rural to urban areas through meetings and radio talks (radio OKAPI) at local and national levels top inform all provinces about this issue and debate some of the women concerns in the region. 2) Three preparatory workshops are organised with LOFEPANOKI, a women network gathering 8 women organisations including SYDIP. 3) Feed back and briefing of the results of the training and information on biodiversity and food security. Reflection on the constraints encountered by rural women in Congo concerning the biodiversity conservation and food security. This will take place in the villages after the workshop to mobilise all authorities and public. 4) Traditional games and scenes to materialise the theme and close the celebrations. A special mention will be done to UN authorities: Peace must come back in Congo in order to facilitate women farmers. SOUTH AFRICA SWEDEN LRF Women Public seminar in Stockholm about "Food, power and biodiversity" on the 14th of October arranged by a special national FAO-committee A researchers seminar on the same theme organised by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences on the 15th of October Participation of the Indian Vice President of the IFAP Committee on women farmers to get a gender perspective on the issue.
